Welcome to Reception

It is lovely to have all the children back in school again and ready to learn.

This half term in reception our learning challenge is ‘All About Me!”. We will be learning about our families, who is in our family and how all our families are different. We will also be learning about who we are, what we look like and how we are different. We will be looking at the different parts of our body and how our bodies work.

In English this half term we are learning the story of ‘Max’s Amazing Adventures’ through Talk for Writing. We will be looking at how stories have a beginning, middle and end and using this to create our own stories.

In Maths this half term we will be consolidating children’s knowledge of numbers up to 5. The children will be practicing reading, writing and counting, using number to at least 5 through focus activities and continuous provision. We will also be beginning to sort a variety of objects into different groups and asking the children to explain how and why they have sorted them. The children will also be learning positional language to help describe where something is.

In reception we will be having daily phonics lesson through Read Write Inc., where the children will be introduced to a new sound each day. New taught sounds will come home for the children to practice and consolidate their learning. Once the children are confident at recognising the sounds they will move on to blending for reading. There will be a RWI Parents meeting on 14th October, via zoom, which would be great for you to attend.

Class 1 will have PE on a Wednesday and Class 2 on a Tuesday so the children should come to school in their PE kit.
Please send a named water bottle for your child, which will go home daily to be washed and refilled. During snack time the children will have the option of fruit and a carton of milk if they wish to have it.
School dinners in reception are free of charge and the school is working towards allowing parents to choose with their children from home.

Please make sure you are signed up to the class dojo, which is where all messages will be sent and also to Target Tracker where you can see your child’s learning from home. If you have any problems with this, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Initially, reading books will be allocated through Bug Club, so you can share a book each night with your child. Here is the link and you will receive the log in details via dojo. We will also send homework on a Friday so please make sure your child’s book bag is sent into school on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Welcome to reception, we hope you and your children have a great year!

Kind Regards
Mrs Durkan & Mrs Shuttleworth
