Half-Term Overview:
This half term our topic is “Celebrations and family fun times” We will start the half term by exploring different celebrations from around the world such as Halloween, Diwali and Bonfire night and then move onto exploring Christmas as the half term goes on. Together we will explore what each of our families celebrate and encourage conversations about culture. We will also explore the changing seasons through Understanding of the World. The children will discuss what they can see, feel and smell whilst outside and begin to demonstrate understanding of the changing seasons in the natural world around them.
English
In English this half term we are learning the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ through Talk for Writing. We will be looking at how stories have a beginning, middle and end and using this to create our own stories.
Maths
In Maths this half term we will be consolidating children’s knowledge of numbers up to 5 and our counting, ordinality and cardinality. We will be using five frame, face of die and part, part whole models to help us understand “how many” in a group of objects.
Phonics
The children are making good progress with their phonics and we will be continuing with our daily phonics lesson through Read Write Inc. Look out for video on Class Dojo to help the children practice their sounds and words online. We will also be sending home reading books to match their phonics level.
Social and Emotional Learning
This term we have introduced a new programme called ‘Think Equal ‘, this is an award-winning global charity and programme which has been fully funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and the NHS Mental Health in Education Programme, for every single 4-5-year old across the region. It is a Social and Emotional learning programme, which helps children manage their own emotions and impulsive behaviours, build their confidence and self-esteem, have empathy and show consideration for others, solve problems effectively and learn to resolve conflicts peacefully, build critical thinking skills and make responsible decisions and maintain healthy relationships and learn to collaborate. These lessons will happen three times per week. We will also begin to send home learning surrounding Think Equal home.
Kind Regards
Mrs Shuttleworth, Mrs Johnson & Mrs Sharif
