Equality and Accessibility

At Gorse Hill Primary, we are committed to creating a school community where everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected, regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, faith, or sexual orientation. We take our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 seriously, working to eliminate discrimination, promote equal opportunities, and foster positive relationships across our community. Our school values and ethos actively promote equality and challenge discrimination in all its forms.

As a proud UNICEF Rights Respecting School, children’s rights are central to our approach. These principles underpin daily school life and are woven throughout the curriculum, helping pupils develop a strong understanding of fairness, respect, and responsibility, as well as the importance of valuing difference.

Equality and diversity are embedded across our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education) and RE (Religious Education) curriculum. The PSHE curriculum follows guidance from the PSHE Association and includes statutory elements of relationships and health education. We feel that the curriculum reflects the needs of our pupils and wider community.

We carefully select books and learning resources that reflect the diversity of our school community, ensuring positive and inclusive representation for all children. Pupils are also given opportunities to share their views and influence school life through pupil-led groups, such as the School Council and School Ambassadors.

Equality is further promoted through everyday learning experiences, including thoughtful discussions, responses to current events, and opportunities that arise naturally from children’s questions, interests, and experiences.

We warmly welcome parents and carers to speak with us if they have any questions about equality at Gorse Hill Primary.
