Our Aims

In Cedar Class, we offer a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum that is designed to challenge and support all learners. We encourage children to develop confidence, resilience and a strong sense of responsibility as they grow.

A key focus in our class is helping pupils become increasingly independent in their learning. We provide opportunities for children to think critically, solve problems, work collaboratively and take pride in their progress and achievements.

Curriculum Overview

Long Term Plan

T4W English Plan

Our aim is to provide a fun, engaging and appropriately challenging curriculum that makes a meaningful difference to every child.

As part of our learning journey, children will experience a wide range of exciting and enriching opportunities.

English and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)

This term, our focus in English is on crafting both fiction and non-fiction texts with increasing sophistication. We will be embedding advanced grammatical structures such as fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases, figurative language (including metaphors, similes and personification), and varied punctuation for effect.

We will also be revisiting and consolidating essential SPaG knowledge from previous years – including the use of verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, and determiners – to ensure a strong foundation for high-quality writing.

English- Reading Comprehension

Our Reading sessions this term will focus on developing reading fluency, stamina, and comprehension of more challenging texts. We will explore a variety of genres and authors, enhancing our ability to retrieve information accurately, infer meaning, interpret vocabulary in context, and analyse authorial choices. These skills are vital for our termly assessments and lifelong reading confidence.

Mathematics

We begin the term by strengthening our understanding of place value and the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Pupils will also tackle fractions and key measurement concepts.

A strong emphasis will be placed on arithmetic fluency and mental maths strategies, alongside developing reasoning and problem-solving skills in line with the National Curriculum’s aims for mathematical mastery.

Science

Spring 1: Evolution and Inheritance.
In Spring 1, the children will be looking at how animals and plants inherit characteristics from their parents. We will also be learning about how living things change and adapt to suit their environment.

Spring 2 Animals including Humans
In Spring 2,  the children will study Animals Including Humans. Pupils will learn about the circulatory system and the roles of the heart, blood and blood vessels. They will also explore how nutrients and water are transported around the body and how diet, exercise and lifestyle choices affect our health.

Art

In Art, children will develop their skills in textiles and sculpture. They will study a range of both past and contemporary artists, using these influences to inspire their own creative work.

Design and Technology- Healthy Burgers

In DT, our focus is on nutrition and food preparation. Pupils will investigate popular burgers currently available on the market, analysing ingredients and nutritional content. They’ll then design and create their own healthy burger, learning about balanced diets, food hygiene, and evaluation processes along the way.
