We are a mixed year class with pupils in both accademic years 3 & 4. In Beech class we offer a broad, balanced, creative and engaging curriculum that is designed to challenge and support all learners. We are an inclusive class and work together to bring the best out of each other! We are resilliant and never give up!
Autumn Term 2 Overview
Wow what a busy term it has been. Beech class have shown all of our school values this half-term, they have worked together building new friendships, knowing who to ask for help and valuing each other. They have shown flexibility in adapting to new learning challenges and aspired to be the best that they can be as well as always showing care and respect towards each other. They have also enjoyed all they have set out to do!
Maths
In our maths learning we will be building on place value by learning about addition and subtraction. We will challenge ourselves by working out the missing numbers and practice efficient methods to speed up our calculating such as knowing which number complement each other (e.g. 33+67) and how to check our answers by estimating. Top Tip: we ‘exchange’ ones for tens or tens for 100s etc (we don’t use the term borrow anymore). We will then learn about Area. Please continue to practice your times tables on Times Tables Rock Stars daily!
English
In English, we will be developing our written work by using conjunctions, fronted adverbials, similes, the power of three, paragraphs and mixed punctuation. We will use different texts to help us learn how to describe. Our key text is Elf Road, we will then write our own portal story falling through a mysterious, magical door! We will also write information texts on Goblinology.
Science
In our science lessons, we will be looking at digestion and teeth, we will learn about the different teeth we have and their function. We will also learn about our digestive systems and carry out some messy investigations!
Geography
Our geographical skills will be enhanced as we learn about rainforests, the different layers and the animals which live in them. We will learn about deforestation and some of the environmental issues this causes.
History
Our history learning will take us right back to the Ancient Greece, and we will look at what life was like. We will look at some of the Myths and how the Olympic game s began.
RE
Our Religious Education will focus on the Christmas story.
Music
In Music we will be learning our Christmas performance songs as well as learning the glockenspiel with the Hallé.
Computing
Mr Donaghy will teach us about computer networks and internet safety on a Friday afternoon.
D&T
In DT, we will be creating the next toy craze by sewing our own plushie keyrings. The children will look at existing products, create a prototype and then design and make their own soft toy plushie.

Key Information and Dates
PE is on Thursday and Friday mornings with Mr O'Neill please come into school wearing your PE kit on these days.
Reading books need to be returned on a Wednesday afternoon Thursday morning and will be sent out on Thursday afternoons.
Spellings will be sent out on Thursday and tested the following Wednesday.
Healthy snacks can be brought into school for morning breaktime such as fruit, vegetables, yoghurt, cheese, crackers etc.
Please remember to message us on Class Dojo if you have any questions or concerns. A reminder to all - please remember to label school uniform especially jumpers using a sharpie or biro.
